Linseed oil, sometimes referred to as flax seed oil, is the yellowish oil obtained from the rip seeds of a flax plant. Once the seeds are dried, a process called cold pressing obtains the oil. Linseed has many uses but most commonly used in vanishes, paints, resins, and ink because it dries quickly. Linseed oil is highly flammable and as it evaporates it can spontaneously combust. It is extremely important that rags and clothing that come in contact with linseed oil products are properly disposed of to prevent the cause of fire. Although it is still highly flammable, it is a much safer product to use.
